Cabo Girls' Trip Feb 2021

The Final Eight

I flew at 7 am from Ft Myers and arrived at DFW on time and met up with the other girls from Lake Kiowa. We are meeting Rena at the Cabo Airport. Out flight to Cabo left at noon and arrived on time at
2 pm. It took us 2.5 hours to go through immigration (which was disorganized and confusing) toarrive at the resort.
We might have brought a few suitcases!

Off we go!

The resort is Dreams and we are staying in the Preferred area.  The resort has beautiful grounds, and the room is really nice. One room received an ungraded suite and it is really nice.  Sitting room with dining/card playing table and two bathrooms. Just wasn't us!

Nice sitting area

After unpacking we had dinner at Portifinos.  Everyone had a good meal and included wine was really pretty good.  Two choices for both red and white wines.

After dinner we crashed.  I had been up since 3 am Eastern time.

A nice welcome in our room when we returned from dinner.  Almost too pretty to eat.

Sun. Rest/Relax day

We woke up a little before 8 and had breakfast at World Cafe.  Breakfast was a buffet but they also cooked eggs and omelets to order.

Spent the morning under a palapa watching the whales.

The area reserved for Preferred Rooms.  Palapas were bigger and loungers had thicker pads.

A couple of vendors wandered by and Donna led the way in making a few purchases.

Lunch was at Seafood Grill. We shared nachos, ceviche, guacamole, salsa and chips.  We found our favorite server here, Victor. He really went out of his way to serve and added shrimp to Donna's nachos.

Half the group went to play cards and half, including me when back to our palapa. Temperature was perfect with a slight breeze.
After a much needed shower, we headed to the lobby bar for predinner drinks.  My Lemon drop martini was a disappointment so I switched to rum and coke.  We went to Oceania for dinner but there was a wait so we went back to the bar and enjoyed the duo that was playing music.
Entertainment at the lobby bar for pre dinner drinks

After dinner, Donna and I went back to listen to the music and then off to bed.

Monday

We have a city tour and boat ride to the arches today.  We meet in the lobby at 10:50 so a lazy morning. We ordered eggs and omelets at the cafe and both were good.  The sausage, not so much!
Our tour with Cabo Sightseeing was really nice. Driver and guide Tony took good care of us.

First we took a glass bottom tour to the arches where we saw lots of fish.  We also saw the seals.

After our boat tour we ate at Alexander’s at the Marina.  The had 2 for 1 drinks and free guacamole through our tour guide.

Donna and I shared coconut shrimp and calamari. The calamari was good but the coconut shrimp was to die for!  Then off for shopping.  We went to a really nice jewelry store but fortunately it was all silver so I wasn’t tempted.  I did buy a -tshirt and Covid medications in case Donna or I test positive.  I looked at it as insurance.  Last stop was tequila tasting.  I wasn’t tempted to buy any but the almond and vanilla flavored was pretty good.

We arrived back at the resort around 4:30.

Dinner was at Portofinos again.  Service wasn’t quite as good and we weren’t as hungry but food was good.  We skipped dessert to catch the vendor shops that were closing in 15 min.  They said they were only there on Mondays.  Hmmm, we will see but money was spent!

Tuesday

After breakfast we headed to our loungers on the beach.  Since we were catching the van at 3:20 for our sunset cruise, we stayed on the beach until 1, then went up to the room to shower than had a late lunch at Seaside Grill.  The van arrived around 3:30 and we were off.  Two more stops to pick up 2 people at each stop then to the office of Cabo Adventures.  There were lots of people milling around so I was concerned this was going to be a party boat, but so wrong.  Just the 8 of us on a large sailboat.  They served drinks and a large platter of snacks.
A small snack!

We thought our leader was going overboard for sure.

The whales put on a fantastic show for us.  Breaching right in front of us.

We followed a mama whale and baby for probably an hour with lots of tail action and the baby doing lots of breaching. Pretty cool.  They definitely put on a show for us.

The arch with the sun setting was a nice touch.

All in all, a great excursion.  We bought the photo package so we could all get the photos.  The photographer captured some excellent shots.  We didn’t get back to the hotel until 8:30.  After the huge snacks on the sailboat, nobody was hungry so we all headed to our rooms.

Wed

A relax day for Donna and me but for some it was spa day.  Donna and I started at the adult pool after breakfast.  Nice and quiet location.

Light lunch at Seaside Grill then back to the adult pool.  No bar service so we moved to the beach. Rene and Amy tested for Covid this morning and got their results back at 6.  Both negative!!

We met at the lobby bar and headed to Oceania.  The sunset was gorgeous so we stopped for pictures.

We enjoyed our dinner at the outdoor restaurant tonight much more since it was warmer and we all ditched the sundresses.  Another good dinner then listened to the band until 10 pm, which appears to be the bewitching hour.

Thursday

We skipped breakfast and went straight to the area for our Covid Test.  No waiting and wasn’t as bad as we feared.  Results at 6 pm tonight.  We all decided to hang at the main pool today.  Much more crowded today and a considerably younger, louder crowd arriving.  After lunch at Seaside Grill, we lost our seats at the pool so Donna and I went to the beach.  We got the last two loungers.  The guys next to us only knew one word, the f-word so for the first time disappointed in the setting.
Dinner tonight is in the French restaurant, Bordeaux.  But first off to get our results.  Yea, negatives for everyone!!!!

Dinner at Bordeaux was excellent.  We sat outside in a candlelit area with nice service.  Well done!

Friday

We did not realize that the bar area  in the preferred lounge served breakfast and lunch so we met there at 7:30 for breakfast. Lots of options and very good. We had the room to ourselves most of the time. The service was pretty slow but it was a cool AM so we were in no hurry.  Amy and Rene left us at 8:30.  Said the airport process was fairly simple.

After breakfast some of us played cards and others read.  After lunch we went to the adult pool and beach.  Before dinner, we used the time to pack our suitcases, or at least throw our dirty clothes in the suitcase.  Our last dinner was at Seaside Grill which is where we ate lunch every da,  but at night it served steak. Probably not our best meal.  Good but not great.

Some of us went back to the lobby bar to hear the band.  It was pretty deserted and they didn't play long. There were two tables of young couples and they both jumped us and offered us their chairs.  Very generous, but had to wonder how old we looked to them!!

Saturday.

I was booked on the 11:45 flight and the others were booked for 2:00.  The others were able to change to the earlier flight and we all left for the airport together.  We had to download information, including the negative Covid Test into an app Verifly.  It was somewhat confusing, then when we got ready to check in, we had papers to complete as well.  Once we checked out luggage, it was quick.  Flight was only half full and arrived to a cool and rainy Dallas.  I had to go through customs, recheck my bag and change terminals.  Arrived at the gate, as they just started boarding.  The flight from DFW to Fort Myers was packed.  The plane arrived 20 min early, but there wasn't a gate available so the time lost.  Then I waited and hour and a half to get my suitcase.  I didn't think any airport could be slower than  Midland International, but Ft Myers may be.
